History

The HIV/AIDS Relief Center was originally located in Soi Rewadee, Nonthaburi Province, under the name "Ban Ban Jai Center." It provided temporary housing for AIDS patients and provided counseling services to them and their family members. Father Giovanni Contarin served as the first director.

However, due to the center's location in the heart of an urban area and the lack of knowledge about AIDS and negative attitudes toward people living with HIV and AIDS, protesters gathered to protest the center's relocation. Violence and threats included bombings in front of the center's office and shootings. The center subsequently closed and moved its HIV/AIDS relief operations to a new location in Rayong Province. The land, donated by the Camillian Foundation of Thailand, was located at 1/1 Soi Kiri, Huai Pong Subdistrict, Mueang District, Rayong Province. The new center, called the Camillian Social Center Rayong, officially opened on January 29, 1996. Initially, it consisted of two buildings: The AIDS patient building and the mother and child building have been operating and expanding in various phases. The work is divided into 7 projects in total.
